1. Hair care

Summary: Gentle washing, brushing and protection help keep the hair healthy and shiny without frequent replacements.

1.1 Application

  • Professional application ⚙️: Always have the extensions applied at a certified ProfiBeauty salon for a natural look and gentle treatment.
  • Reapplication 🔄: Wear them for 6–8 weeks, followed by a quick, painless reapplication. The hair can last up to two years.
  • Final trim ✂️: Gently blend the transition, with minimal loss of length when the correct technique is used.
  • Natural shedding 🌿: Losing 50–100 hairs a day is normal. A loss of 1–5% with each move-up is common and is not a defect. Some clients add another pack after 1–2 years.

1.2 Washing

  • First 48–72 hours 🚫: Do not wet the hair; the bonds need time to settle.
  • Frequency 🛁: Wash once or twice a week (less frequent washing means less strain).
  • Technique:
    • Wash while leaning back, using lukewarm water (never bend forward).
    • Brush before washing to prevent tangling.
    • Shampoo: Work from the roots to the ends without massaging the bonds.
    • Conditioner/mask: Apply only to the lengths, never to the bonds.
  • Hair products ✅: Choose products free of sulfates, parabens, silicones and fruit extracts.

1.3 Drying

  • Blot with a towel (do not rub!) and be careful around the bonds.
  • Let the hair air-dry or use a hairdryer at a low temperature with a heat-protection spray.
  • ⚠️ Warning: A hot hairdryer held close to the hair (<20 cm) can damage both the hair and the bonds. Use cool air.

1.4 Brushing

  • Brush 🪮: Use the DETANGLE HAIR BRUSH or GOLDEN DETANGLE HAIR BRUSH from ProfiBeauty. Regular combs can damage the hair and bonds.
  • Technique:
    • Brush dry hair (wet hair is more prone to breakage).
    • Start at the ends → move to the middle → finish at the roots (hold the hair near your head to avoid pulling).
    • Brush several times a day to prevent tangling.

1.5 Styling and heat

  • Blow-drying 💨: Use a low temperature, keep the hairdryer at least 20 cm away and apply a heat-protection spray.
  • Straightening/curling 🔥: Use no more than 120–160 °C and apply a protective serum or spray; do not apply heat to the bonds.
  • Styling products 💇‍♀️: Choose lightweight, alcohol-free products (alcohol weakens both hair and bonds).

1.6 Before bed

  • Dry your hair (wet hair is more likely to tangle).
  • Apply a moisturising cream or oil to the lengths, not to the bonds.
  • Loosely braid your hair or put it in a loose bun.

1.7 Additional hair care tips

  • Colouring 🚫: Not recommended, as it shortens the hair’s lifespan. If necessary, test one strand first; colouring is at your own risk and voids the warranty.
  • Do not use ❌: SO.CAP, Balmain, Great Lengths, Hairdreams, TONI&GUY, Kérastase or L’Oréal Professionnel (incompatible products).
  • Moisturising 💧: Apply leave-in serums, creams or oils daily, avoiding harmful ingredients.
  • Elasticity test 🧪: Once a month, stretch two or three hairs after washing to check for a lack of moisture or protein.

2. Caring for tape-in bonds

Summary: Regular checks and gentle care minimise bond deterioration. Bond restoration extends their lifespan.

2.1 Reapplication and bond maintenance

  • Move-ups 🔄: Have the bonds moved up every 6–8 weeks to prevent matting from shed hair.
  • Salon checks 🏥: At every move-up, have the bonds checked for mechanical damage and cracks.
  • Matting ⚠️: Never cut matted hair. Carefully detangle it strand by strand.

2.2 What damages the bonds

The bonds are exposed to everyday strain. The most common causes of deterioration are:

  • Heat (🔥): A hot hairdryer held too close (<20 cm), or high temperatures when straightening or curling.
  • Chemicals (🧪): Sulfates, alcohol, colouring products, chlorine and salt.
  • Mechanical strain (🛠️): Pulling during brushing, sport and movement during sleep.

Prevention:

  • Blow-dry with cool air, at least 20 cm away, and use heat protection.
  • Avoid harsh hair products containing sulfates or alcohol.
  • Brush gently, holding the bonds and starting at the ends.
  • Avoid chlorine, salt water and saunas.

⚠️ Key warning: A hot hairdryer held close to the bonds melts the adhesive. Use a low temperature and heat protection.

2.3 Bond restoration

  • When to restore: If a bond is damaged, act early at damage stages 1–3 (cracks or weakening). Most clients’ bonds remain in good condition for 1–2 years, but some need restoration after one to three move-ups.
  • Process: This is a paid service at the salon or workshop. It is performed after a visual check at the move-up appointment.
  • Result: Restoration extends the lifespan of the tape-ins.
